Job Description

Collaborates with: Marketing team, events team, incubation hub coordinators, external  partners, clients, and workshop participants. 

 

Core Responsibilities 
Hosting & Facilitation 
– Act as the dedicated Host/MC for Suitable Focus workshops, events, incubation hubs, and  speaking engagements.  
– Represent Suitable Focus on stage, ensuring professional delivery and audience engagement.  • Facilitate panel discussions, Q&A sessions, and networking activities.  
– Maintain deep knowledge of Suitable Focus’s mission, services, and ecosystem to confidently  speak on behalf of the brand. 
  
Communications & Brand Representation 
– Serve as the public voice of Suitable Focus at events, conferences, and partner engagements.  • Deliver presentations and speeches that align with Suitable Focus’s values and objectives.  • Support media coverage by providing commentary, interviews, and soundbites.  • Ensure consistent messaging and brand positioning across all speaking opportunities. 
  
Event Coordination & Outreach 
– Chase and follow up on event opportunities, speaking gigs, and hosting engagements for  Suitable Focus.  
– Liaise with partners, funders, and collaborators to secure Suitable Focus’s presence at key  ecosystem events.  
– Work with the marketing team to prepare event scripts, talking points, and promotional  materials.  
– Track and report on event outcomes, audience engagement, and partnership opportunities. 
  
Client & Ecosystem Engagement 
– Build strong relationships with event organizers, universities, corporates, and ecosystem  stakeholders.  
– Actively seek new opportunities for Suitable Focus to showcase its work through speaking  engagements.  
– Provide feedback and insights from events to inform Suitable Focus’s growth strategy. 
  
Continuous Improvement 
– Stay updated on public speaking, facilitation, and communications best practices.  • Upskill through training in hosting, presentation, and media engagement.  • Recommend new formats or approaches to improve Suitable Focus’s event presence. 

 

The compensation package is structured in two segments: an initial probationary stage followed  by a permanent stage.  
During the probationary period, the focus is on assessing capability, ensuring alignment with  cash flow, and confirming role fit.  

 

Once probation is successfully completed, the permanent stage reflects market-aligned  compensation for Communications & Events Host/MC in Cape Town, recognizing the added  responsibilities and proven performance. This structure provides both a fair entry point and a  clear pathway for growth within the role.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Educational Background 
– 2+ years of experience in hosting, MC’ing, public speaking, or facilitation. Strong communication and presentation skills. 
– Ability to engage diverse audiences (students, corporates, entrepreneurs). Experience coordinating events or workshops. 
– Confidence in representing a brand publicly. 

 

Advantageous Experience 
– Background in media, communications, or marketing. 
– Experience in entrepreneurial ecosystems or corporate training environments. Prior involvement in securing speaking gigs or event partnerships. Familiarity with digital platforms for hybrid/online events. 

 

Personal Attributes 
– Charismatic, confident, and adaptable in front of audiences. 
– Strong relationship-building skills with partners and event organizers. Entrepreneurial mindset, motivated by commission and performance incentives. Growth-oriented, with interest in scaling into a leadership communications role.
